From the supplier: The growth of Austin, TX's computer parts industry has made it an attractive target for criminals. In Oct. 1995, several armed thieves broke into a smart card manufacturing facility, held up its employees and ran off with several items. The incident spurred the area's seven major high-technology manufacturers to establish a security planning and coordinating committee. The committee formed the Austin Metro High Tech Foundation to oversee and finance a special security unit composed of local police officers. The unit was given special training on identifying stolen items and works closely with the security services of the respective companies.
